Hello hello, it is October! and cozy season is upon us. This month we have a playlist from Peggy Cecil remembering the life of Duncan Sheik, Justin G reigning in the spooky side of cozy season, and John back again with part 4 of his never ending every 2 playlist.

Duncan and Peggy

Duncan Sheik

Peggy Cecil (Annapolis, MD) -- Duncan Sheik came into my life in the 90’s with the release of his self titled 1st album. His lyrics are so smart and often humorous, they fall beautifully over his brilliant orchestration. I was lucky enough to see him in person several times and he was wonderful live. I am so sad that he left too soon. He became such a light on Broadway with his 1st musical Spring Awakening. He sadly died last week and my hope is someone new will come to love his music as much as I do.

Justin G

Hallowed List '26

Justin G (New York City, NY) -- I'm back for my favorite time of year to bring you a special breaking Halloween playlist, hand picked out of my own candy bowl.

1. "Halloween All the Time" - Eddie Golden III

πŸ“ Kickin things off with one of my all-time favorites from our host Eddie. This song has been in my regular rotation and my head since high school.

2. "Riboflavin-Flavored, Non-Carbonated, Polyunsaturated Blood" - Don Hinson & The Rigamorticians

πŸ“ This one's an underheard classic. If you're looking for a good alternative to the regular ol' Monster Mash this is a good option. Really the whole record is worth checking out.

3. "I Was A Teenage Werewolf" - The Cramps

πŸ“ The Cramps are perfect for theming here, especially this little number.

4. "Ocean" - Dead Can Dance

πŸ“ Now for something a little more atmospheric. Get in the ghost zone.

5. "Monster Rap - Club Mix" - Bobby "Boris" Pickett

πŸ“ Bet you didn't know about this one. Well now you do, you're welcome.

6. "Halloween" - Misfits

πŸ“ Of course we've got the Misfits here, you can't leave them out of this.

7. "In Heaven" - David Lynch, Alan R. Splet

πŸ“ Everything's fine. RIP

8. "The Great Pumpkin Waltz" - Vince Guaraldi

πŸ“ Not so creepy now. Taking a breather with Vince's magic fingers and a lil flute on top. Ain't this cozy?

9. "Hammer Horror" - Kate Bush

πŸ“ I like the old hammer movies, I like Kate Bush, and we got a bit of both in this one.

10. "The Lipslide" - Eddie Golden III

πŸ“ Next up from Eddie, this wicked piece that always gets me all twisted.

11. "Werewolves of London" - Warren Zevon

πŸ“ Duh. I recommend checking out the music video.

12. "Bubbling Cauldron" - Fiendish Imp

πŸ“ Smell that? That's your local witch's cauldron bubbling away.

13. "Witch" - Goblin

πŸ“ Previously mentioned witch is now approaching. Check out Suspiria if you haven't.

14. "All Hallows Eve" - Type O Negative

πŸ“ One of my favorite tracks from one of my favorite bands, it's a fairly obvious choice even though plenty of their songs would fit just fine here.

15. "Halloween I" - Splash Band

πŸ“ Funky little version of the Halloween theme I found, great for the dance floor.

16. "Halloween" - Eddie Golden

πŸ“ Final offering from Eddie, one of his best and most atmospheric songs. I love the way he bounces between 60s garage rock pastiche to total horror movie soundtrack, then right back.

17. "Midnight, the Stars and You" - Al Bowlly

πŸ“ And now we say goodnight, walk our guests to the door and bid them farewell. But does anyone ever really leave? I mean, they've always been here, haven't they?

John

every 2 (part 4)

John Cecil (London, UK) -- Every 2 songs remind me of each other or relate in some way that kinda scratches an itch

Apple Music link

1. "The Rat" - The Walkmen
2. "Wolf Like Me" - TV on the Radio

πŸ“ Both are the bangiest of bangers

3. "Crop Circles" - Odie Leigh
4. "These Days" - Cat Power

πŸ“ Both cute and sultry

5. "Purple Teeth, The Bravery" - Del Water Gap
6. "Jude" - Abby Sage

πŸ“ Both ear wormy and groovy

7. "Now At Last" - Feist
8. "Like Ships" - The Blasting Company feat. Elijah Wood & Shannyn Sossamon

πŸ“ 'Like Ships' is from my favorite tv show of all time 'Over the Garden Wall' and it was very much a coincidence that this song came in the October post because I watch the show every single year when it starts to get chilly

9. "My Girls" - Animal Collective
10. "Time to Pretend" - MGMT

πŸ“ The transition???!? Are you Kidding me??

11. "Careful, Kid (Be Kind Version)" - The Staves
12. "Unconditional I (Lookout Kid)" - Arcade Fire

πŸ“ Both lovely little tunes, both warning kids, and both in parentheses

🏁

See you in November!!!!
